Caribbean Tourism Organization Foundation

In 1997, to support its efforts in tourism leadership development, the CTO established the CTO Foundation. The CTO Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation, registered in the state of New York, formed exclusively for charitable and educational purposes under section 501(c)(3) of the Inland Revenue Code of 1986.

The Foundation provides scholarships and financial assistance to Caribbean nationals interested in pursuing studies in tourism and hospitality, and also supports tourism employees wanting to improve their foreign language skills. Study grants are provided to persons pursuing training towards any level of certification. Scholarships are provided to individuals studying at a Master’s (post graduate) level, who have the desire but not the resources to pursue their dreams. Individuals granted these awards and scholarships must demonstrate academic excellence and leadership potential.

A Board of Directors comprising private and public sector individuals who work tirelessly to support and guide the efforts of the Foundation manage the Foundation. Since its launch in 1997 the CTO Foundation has provided over 160 major scholarships and study grants to deserving Caribbean nationals, amounting to a financial outlay in excess of US $700,000. The money spent thus far has been raised from various fund-raising efforts and through the very generous support of major corporations like American Express, Interval International, Royal Caribbean International, Monroe College and the CTO Chapters.
